The Jewish journalist Ari Shavit has written "My Promised Land: The Triumph and Tragedy of Israel".
Shavit refers to the 1936 Arab revolt and writes: "From this moment on, the idea of 'transfer' - the removal of the Arab population - became part of mainstream Zionist thinking."
Prof Emeritus Ralph M Coury, of Fairfield University in the USA, quite rightly points out that Shavit is wrong.

In 1895, Theodor Herzl (the founder of the Zionist movement) wrote in his diary that the Jews from Europe and America should 'gently' expropriate the natives' property.
Herzl explained that the Jews should "try to spirit the penniless population across the border by procuring employment for it in the transit countries, while denying it any employment in our own country.
"The property-owners will come over to our side.
"But the process of expropriation and the removal of the poor must be carried out discreetly and circumspectly.
"Let the owners of immovable property believe that they are cheating us, selling us things for more than they are worth.
"But we are not going to sell them anything back."
