In October 2013, the victim in the sexual assault case against a Philadelphia Catholic priest died, according to District Attorney Seth Williams.

"It is with great sadness that I have to announce that the victim in the rape and assault case against Father Robert Brennan passed away unexpectedly," Williams announced.

The victim, who was allegedly raped by Robert Brennan while serving as an altar boy from 1998 to 2001, was found dead by Philadelphia Police Detectives over the weekend.

"Soaring numbers of child abuse allegations are being dropped by police, figures reveal today.

"Before the Tory-led Coalition came to power 12,691 cases – 52% – were sent to prosecutors. But in the year to April just 9,379, or 36%, were referred.

"A similar proportion of rape cases were also dropped, House of Commons library figures showed."
