According to court records in London, the clergy have been among the chief users of male prostitutes.

John Rykener, a London rent boy, named as clients numerous men of the church.

When John Rykener was brought before the authorities, he explained that "a certain Anna, the whore of a former servant of Sir Thomas Blount, first taught him."

He said that he had had sex with a number of people including:

Phillip, rector of Theydon Garnon, Sir William Foxlee, Sir John, Sir Walter,

Two Franciscans Brother Michael and Brother John, a Carmelite friar

Six foreign men, Joan daughter of John Matthew, two foreign Franciscans, a certain Sir John, once chaplain at the Church of St. Margaret Pattens,

Two other chaplains, many nuns, many women both married and otherwise, and many priests.
