TOO WEE, TOO POOR, TOO STUPID?

Scots

Should Scotland be independent?

Alex Salmond of the Scottish National Party has brought out a Scottish independence plan.

According to David Walker, in The Guardian:

"The Scottish independence white paper, unveiled by the first minister Alex Salmond on 26 November 2013, was 'conservative' and 'unambitious'."

Did Alex Salmond miss his chance?

According to Lynn Henderson, of the Public and Commercial Services Union:

"A more fundamental failure of the independence blueprint is to not imagine a Scottish state controlling the fiscal and economic levers required to meet its objectives.

"That the European Central Bank and the Bank of England would continue to dictate the ground rules - plus ca change?"

According to Mark McDonald of the Scottish National Party: "Instead of getting governments at Westminster that Scotland doesn't vote for, the direction of an independent Scotland will be in the hands of people living here."

Did Alex Salmond miss his chance?

Comments from Guardian readers:

1. Public Spending as a share of GDP:

2011-12

Scotland 42.7%

UK 45.5%

http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Resource/0041/00418131.pdf

2. Check out the SNP's really hard hitting attack on Scots primary class sizes.

3. So, basically, Edinburgh Council, and my pathetic community council will remain unchanged, forever, because the system works so well according to the SNP.

Added to that, we should be centrally governed by an unchecked unicameral parliament, because the system works so well according to the SNP.

4. The state is the single largest employer in the land. It consumes wealth and fosters militant unions with a nothing to lose mentality that can come unstuck in the commercial real world. The state is under financial pressure to reform but is the Hindu cow of Scottish politics.

5. Whats not mentioned either in this Guardian report or any BBC Scotland reportage is the huge Con/Dem cuts facing all public sector employees, if we stay in this nonsense union.

6. Dave Greenway, the Pulitzer prize winning journalist of The Boston Globe, summed up the SNP thus :

The SNP's nationalism is based on citizenship, rather than on ethnicity, religion, or language, and is pro-immigration; quite different from many national movements.

7. Too wee, too poor, too stupid to run your own affairs, but the sheltering wing of the UK will keep us all safe and well from hordes of dirty rampaging immigrants etc.

That's the case against independence as it's being presented by it's advocates.

You want authoritarianism, start looking at the other side.

8.  Major restructuring has already taken place under devolution (the centralisation of police and fire, for example).

9. Will people be better served in a smaller more nimble economic entity with a directly accountable form of government?

Will popular sovereignty prove more able and adaptable than top down?

Do people want to spend their cash on bombs or bairns?

Just why have things gotten so bad if the current system is so good?

10. Osborne and the OBR forecast a cut  of over 1.3 million public sector jobs.

11. Unison Scotland say councils have lost 34,500 jobs since 2008/9 - severely damaging services across the country.

And SCOTLAND has lost 49,000 public sector jobs since the Con-Dems came to power – the equivalent of 49 Ravenscraig closures.

Did Alex Salmond miss his chance?

SCOTLAND'S DEBT PROBLEM?

Posted by explogame On Friday, 20 November 2015 0 comments

The richest countries in the world, in terms of wealth per person, are mainly countries with small populations and a moderate degree of socialism:

Singapore, Norway, Sweden, Denmark...

Scotland already has its own parliament, but it has limited powers.

Scotland, since it got its parliament has been attracting more foreign direct investment than all the other parts of the UK apart from London.

Foreign investment: Catching the Scots | The Economist

Scotland's top politician Alex Salmond says that if Scotland became independent 'next week', it would be the eighth most prosperous country in the world for GDP and have an income £2,000 per head higher than the UK average.

Scottish independence 'could lead to job creation'

The mainstream media tries to tell us that Scotland will have 'a debt problem' if it becomes independent.

An independent Scotland would of course take on a share of UK debt.

It is estimated that if Scotland took on 'a population share of UK public sector net debt', this would be equivalent to 72% of Scottish GDP.

This would be lower than the equivalent UK figure of 77%.

An alternative way to determine Scotland’s share of UK public sector debt could be to base the calculation on an estimate of Scotland's previous contributions to the UK’s public finances.

According to the economists, this would mean that Scotland’s share of UK debt would be 27.6% of Scottish GDP, lower than the population share calculation.

What about the UK's national debt? | Yes Scotland

According to Scotland's Alex Salmond:

"The one-size-fits-all economic policies of successive Westminster (London) governments have failed and are continuing to fail the people of Scotland.

"We perform well at the moment, but we should be doing so much better.

"A simple glance at many other European countries of similar size to Scotland, some without the natural advantages Scotland has, shows that we have lagged behind their growth rates for decades."

Scottish independence 'could lead to job creation'

According to Alex Salmond:

Scottish independence could lead to the creation of lots of new jobs.

According to Alex salmond, an independent Scotland would:

1. Focus on exporting more to countries such as China and Brazil.

2. Cut taxes on businesses.

3. Revive manufacturing.

There would be a revival of Scotland's engineering.

Scotland would copy Germany's Mittelstand model - promoting small firms with fewer than 250 employees.

There would be an expansion of the renewables industries, pharmaceuticals industries, financial services, food and drink, tourism and energy.

Industries would be helped through tax breaks, investment and the easing of red tape.

4. Make full use of its natural resources and huge human talent.

Conclusion

It is England that has the debt problem.

It is England that does not have vast oil wealth.

It is England that goes in for expensive foreign wars.

Vote YES for Scottish independence.

POLL IN FAVOUR OF INDEPENDENCE

Posted by explogame On Wednesday, 2 September 2015 0 comments

Amanda Slater

"The Scottish National party has declared it 'game on' for next year’s referendum on independence from the UK after a poll it commissioned found support for a ‘Yes’ vote outnumbering that for ‘No’ by 1 percentage point.

"The result of the Panelbase poll, which found 44 per cent favouring independence to 43 per cent against, contrasted sharply with a number of other surveys in recent months that have suggested a clear lead for the ‘No’ campaign."

SNP buoyed by poll in favour of independence

A YouGov survey unveiled at the weekend suggested 59 per cent of Scottish voters would vote against independence, with support for independence at just 29 per cent.

YouGov is suspected of being run by the security services.

INDEPENDENCE WITHOUT INDEPENDENCE

Posted by explogame On Saturday, 7 March 2015 0 comments

The Scottish National Party (SNP) wants Scotland to be independent, but are the SNP being led by the wrong people?

According to commentator John Wight:

"The SNP, and the broader YES campaign they are leading, are starting to pay a heavy price for their timidity in putting forward a vision for Scottish independence, which can be summed up as 'independence without independence.'"

Campaign for Scottish independence vulnerable

In the Financial Times, John Kay wrote:

"It is possible to imagine a future for an independent Scotland characterised by reactionary municipal socialism - and the crony capitalism that brought Ireland and Iceland close to economic collapse."

Scottish independence matters less than you think - FT.com

The Scottish National Party (SNP) should be aiming to copy Switzerland, with its decentralised system of government.

Instead, the SNP seems to be concentrating power in Edinburgh and Glasgow, and following policies that that can only be described as lacking in vision.

The Scottish National Party (SNP) looks like it is facing defeat in the coming referendum on independence for Scotland.

The woman leading the SNP's 'Yes' campaign is the deputy SNP leader, Nicola Sturgeon.

She says her favourite 'fantasy dinner guests' would be Nelson Mandela (an agent of MI6) and Hilary Clinton (a close friend of the CIA).

Christine Grahame

According to a story in the Scottish Sunday Express, 18 December 2005, the Special Branch (security services) may be using informants against the SNP.

SNP Member of the Scottish parliament Christine Grahame has accused police of using informants working within the party to build up secret files.

She told party delegates it was 'an orchestrated attempt to undermine the party.'

She said: 'Some of these files expose how UK Ministers have deliberately lied to the people of Scotland over the massive benefits Scotland would derive through independence.'

Alex Salmond's SNP appears to be part of the cover up on Lockerbie.

Alex Salmond's SNP is now supporting NATO.

Nicola Sturgeon had to apologise to parliament for writing a letter asking that a convicted fraudster’s sentence be moderated.

"So to have to apologise in public yet again is to contribute to a growing sense that the SNP administration is reaching the point when competence disappears and credibility evaporates."

Adil Bhatti, with SNP deputy leader Nicola Sturgeon

Adil Bhatti "has been credited with building SNP support in the Asian community - particularly in Sturgeon’s Glasgow Govan constituency, where he was a former branch secretary."

Adil Bhatti quit the SNP.

In his resignation letter, Bhatti wrote: "The events of the last few days and weeks have led me to lose my faith in the SNP, my trust of the leadership and questioned my support for independence.

"The decision on NATO was not a decision made on principle but a cynical and manipulative attempt to win votes."

Alex Salmond's SNP voted for the 'No Fly Zone' which led to NATO's destruction of Libya.

If Scotland votes 'No' in the referendum on independence it will be because the SNP is not actually supporting 'independence'.

EASY TO BE INDEPENDENT?

Posted by explogame On Saturday, 21 February 2015 0 comments

Union soldiers 1863.

How easy might it be for Texas, or Scotland, or Western Ukraine to become independent?

In 1861, the USA fought a civil war to prevent a break up of the union.

Since the 19th century, the Kurds have been trying to break away from Turkey. 35,000 people have been killed in the recent Turkish-Kurdish conflict.

In 1905, Norway voted in a referendum to become independent from Sweden.

Sweden briefly considered war.

Then the Swedes let Norway break away peacefully.

1916 Easter Rising in Dublin

Britain put up a fight to prevent Irish independence, but eventually gave independence to the South in 1921.

Britain has used violence to prevent the North from becoming independent.

In 1956, the Russians used violence to put down the Hungarian revolt.

In the 1968, the Russians used violence to put down the revolt in Czechoslovakia.

In 1991, the break-up of the Soviet Union was peaceful.

However, the Russians have fought a war to prevent Chechnya from becoming independent.

In 1993, Czechoslovakia was peacefully split into two countries, one for the Czechs and one for the Slovaks.

Alex Salmond's plans.

A Chinese diplomat told journalist Gideon Rachman that "England would never accept Scottish independence. It would invade."

Scotland can be a model for how to handle separatism - Gideon Rachman - Financial Times - 17 February 2014.

Rachman writes: "The UK government’s willingness to allow the centuries-old union to be dissolved peacefully is a boost to the country's reputation."

Scottish independence.

However, it should be noted that the London government, and its allies, are doing everything they can to prevent Scotland becoming independent.

Scotland has strategically important waters, huge energy reserves, and important military bases such as the nuclear submarine base at Faslane.

NATO, London, the EU and the USA would be enormously keen to see an independent Scotland remaining a close ally.

The most likely outcome of the 2014 referendum in Scotland is a 'NO' vote, followed by London giving more powers to the existing Scottish parliament.

SCOTLAND RICHER THAN FRANCE AND ENGLAND

Scotland's GDP per head is bigger than that of France and bigger than that of the rest of the UK.

Even pro-unionists accept that the country has all the ingredients to be a viable state - Financial Times, February 2, 2014

Scotland has 8.3 per cent of the UK population and produces 9.2 per cent of its gross domestic product.

Oil, whisky and a huge range of manufactured goods mean an independent Scotland would be one of the world’s top exporters.

An independent Scotland could expect to start with healthier state finances than the rest of the UK.

Even pro-unionists accept that the country has all the ingredients to be a viable state - Financial Times, February 2, 2014

According to David Cameron: "Supporters of independence will always be able to cite examples of small, independent and thriving economies across Europe such as Finland, Switzerland and Norway. It would be wrong to suggest that Scotland could not be another such successful, independent country.”

James Knightley, senior economist at ING bank, says that greater sway over its own economy could be a real advantage for Scotland.
